On the ‘go’ signal, players upstack and downstack the determined pattern. Once all the players at a table complete the pattern, they move around the table to their right (counter clockwise) and begin stacking the next set of Speed Stacks. players continue to stack and change positions around the table until you give the ‘stop’ signal.
To work on ambidexterity and coordination, have them switch directions every minute.
When moving to the right, they stack using their right hand as the lead hand.
When moving to the left, they stack using their left hand as the lead hand.
Team meeting (15 minutes)
Talk about last week’s dual meet. What went well? What does the team need to work on this week?
Coach should give them feedback about this meet and determine a training plan that will help the players improve at their events.
Use the following guidelines to help players improve:
Individual events: Observe players stacking and help them reduce inefficiencies in their stacking. For instance, are they downstacking the last 3’s of their stacks with two hands instead of one, or are they downstacking the 6-6 one stack at a time rather than using the cups from the first 6 to downstack the second 6.
Doubles: Make sure they have an efficient system with their doubles partners. Experiment with the other partner being the lead hand or determining partners that may stack faster together.
Relays: What are the relay concerns? Quick relays are not only about being able to complete the patterns quickly. Does the team or specific players need to work on their turn arounds and foot exchanges?
Training (30 minutes)
Practice Goals
Based on the discussion of the team and the coach observations, create a training plan based on practice goals.
Either the coach will identify or each player will identify a technique or skill that they think will help the team’s performance in the next dual meet.
Identify a goal related to these skills.
Create a training plan for the day’s practice to help the players work on these practice goals.
Wrap up (10 minutes)
Bring the team together and discuss how the work went related to the practice goals. What can they do at home to continue this work before the next dual meet?
